Splatsch

30 05 2008

This time tomorrow, I will be on a night train, zooming across the German countryside, speeding all the way north to Düsseldorf, for another highly anticipated tournament. And I will be playing for the 2 most awesome teams ever, Ultimate deLux and Mother Tongue. I am sure it will be an event to remember.

Either I have been sleeping too much, that I can’t fall asleep at night, or I have insomnia , or I can just do with less sleep. Some things, like this song, keeps replaying in my mind.

All I wanted to say
All I wanted to do
Is fall apart now
All I wanted to feel
I wanted to love
Its all my fault now
A tragedy for sure

Haunted

Some things are gonna come back and haunt me.

Over my Head

27 05 2008

Sometimes things happen which is unforeseen. After every bit, its messing up in my head. Its making me confused and wondering what is going on.

I have too many memories. Some of which need to be forgotten.

6th tourney and counting…

26 05 2008

3rd Südsee Cup, 23-24th May, 2008.

I knew I was in for a difficult time even as I started my journey north. 1st came a long ride in a night train to Zürich, and can I mention again, that the trains from Zürich to Innsbruck are very prone to delays? Anyway, I tried to sleep on the train, but somehow failed miserably, so I got to Zürich in the morning, really tired and this time, I fell asleep on the train from Zürich to Konstanz, but it meant that I only slept for about 1 and a half hrs. And so got to Konstanz, kinda glad that I was there before, coz at least I knew where the bus stop was and everything. And much to my misery, I got onto the wrong bus. Supposed to take Bus 4, but somehow, in my sleepiness, mistook Bus 14 to be 4, so I ended up at some strange place, and had to take another trip to the correct place. And the place was really tough to find, no idea where the fields and camping places were, and the map they provided sucked majorly. And so I arrived late and thank goodness, the 1st 2 people I met there was Claudia and Konstantin, who ended up to be my teammates! So with my good luck, I managed to put my stuff down in their tent and got all my Ultimate gear on and headed to breakfast and the games.

I can’t say a lot about Saturday games, except that 1st game, I was DEAD TIRED. It was the 1st time in a long time that I felt that deep fatigue in the bones, the kind I used to feel when I had had 5hrs of sleep every day of the week and had to go for track training. And we lost the 1st game, and all I remembered that I was so tired that I took the 2hr break to take a nice nap on the D of the track. And I think we won the next 2 and lost the last. So 2 wins out of 4, not bad. And I was still trying to get back into my Ultimate groove, and I think/hope that I played better and better throughout the day. I enjoyed playing with the Leipzig team, the Saxy Divers, they were a cool bunch, although we lost a couple of essential guys due to injury throughout the tournament.

We ordered pizza and had beers for dinner, and at the end of all that food, I was like OMG SO TIRED SO TIRED. We went to sit around and talk, and fatigue and alcohol is not conducive to understanding german, so I promptly fell asleep on one of those comfy portable chairs the germans bought along. And it was nice, coz that power nap was enough to keep me up till 5am! And so me, Claudia and Jan helped Saxy Divers win the party. Timo, the DJ, was actually very very lousy at DJing, with massive pauses between songs that kinda spoilt everything. Met some really really nice people at the party though. And everyone was trying to win the party, and at around 5am, there were about maybe 20 people still partying away. But apparently the music was too loud, and the police came along haha. And something happened at the party which kinda freaked me out, so I was really glad when we went back to the tents to take our much deserved sleep.

Sunday, we lost all our games, but we were up against the Südsee Cup winners for the 1st game, and I guess everyone was kinda tired. And also, us missing some guys from injury and miscellaneous stuff was not exactly winner material, but we all still had fun. Some of my best memories were from massively long points, where no team decided to call timeout and we were just running back and forth due to the turnover fest that was happening. But yeah! I survived the weekend, nothing majorly happened to my hip injury (I think it might even be getting much better!) and it was loads of fun with lots of nice people.

Managed to get a ride to the train station, and soon I was on my way back home. There was this japanese girl, called Yuka, who got onto the train too. She is doing a year abroad in the Uni of Colorado, and she is taking Eurail to travel, and I had a nice talk to her, and will be passing to her all the plans I made for all my Germany/Vienna/Prague trips so she can get suggestions. It was really nice talking to her, she has played Ultimate a bit in Colorado, and she comes from this really small uni in Japan, with only 600! undergrads all together. Really amazing. I hope she has a nice trip!

And yah! I got my camera back! Its all full of sand, the buttons are jammed up, but I got back my memory card, which is really really important, coz my photos are all inside. Will upload them soon soon.

Sometimes, I feel like I am threading on thin ice.

Lost things

24 05 2008

OKAY OKAY! I know I said that in one of my last posts that the things found outweigh the things lost. BUT! But that doesn’t mean I don’t feel the lost. Here I am packing things for Südsee Cup 2008 tomorrow (Leaving in 2 hrs!) and I am SO SO irritated that my swiss army knife is missing, and my bicycle lamp is missing too. They are kinda essential for traveling, just coz one is a multi-tool, and I never know when I might need it. And the bicycle lamp is like ‘LET THERE BE LIGHT!’ and please, everyone knows light is very important for searching for lost belongings etc etc. I distinctively remember bringing both items back, so I don’t see why they are missing! The swiss army knife should be in my backpack, the bike lamp should be in my Crumpler bag. Oh yah did I mention that my karabiners are MISSING. Really. Some moron at London Gatwick or Innsbruck Flughafen nicked them. Now I can’t hook my sleeping bag onto my backpack. And thats a major bummer. ARGH! Where is my stuff!

I admit that losing things are part and parcel of life. But if I KNOW it wasn’t me who lost it. Then I am pissed. I WANT MY TRAVELING ESSENTIALS BACK!

You can tell I can’t pack light can’t you?

Winding Roads

23 05 2008

2 days after coming back from London, just finished washing up my clothes. And about to pack them back into my backpack again. The longer I am away from home, the more I get used to it. It feels natural, to hoist my backpack onto my shoulders, march out of the house and catch the bus to head to the train station or the airport every weekend. The less time I spend in Innsbruck, the more I feel like I should be traveling. I guess thats a pain about having a 5 day weekend, it feels like an absolute waste of time if I remain in place. I could wander around Europe for days to end. There is so many places still to visit, discoveries to be made. And I don’t have enough time. No time, no money. I would still like to do my bicycle tour, but July is packed, and I can’t do it by bike, coz I have to be at opposite ends of Europe for the weekends.

I feel privileged to be able to travel. I know not everyone gets to do it. And really, I am thankful that I get to do that. And it makes me feel like a nomad, tied down to places, but never staying for long. It was predictable actually, me scattering bits of myself around Europe, torn apart by all the beautiful places I have seen and experienced.

Come this time tomorrow, I would be on a train to Konstanz. Its the 3rd Südsee Cup in Konstanz. And I will be playing for Saxy Divers from Leipzig, by a good stroke of luck, and by the grace of the captains of that team. Its going to be another good weekend.

London

22 05 2008

Back from London. Tired but happy. Glad to see friends again. And to meet new ones. To be able to hear English all around. Especially Singlish tinted English. Got to eat my comfort food. Visit world famous sights. Window shop (and small bit of actual shopping too). 24hr supermarkets. Bustling crowded streets. Wide open green parks.

Out of all my holidays (excluding tournaments), I think this is one of my favourite ones. And thats thanks to my gracious hosts, who took care of my every need, brought me around, gave me suggestions, make sure I saw what I wanted to see, accompanied me. Its a pity we don’t see each other that often. I should make more effort to keep in contact with old friends. It is worth it.

Things lost and found.

17 05 2008

Things lost since in Austria:

  1. One red lamp for the bike.
  2. One swiss army knife. (Might be buried somewhere somehow in my room)
  3. One headlamp for the bike. (Might also be hidden under my junk)
  4. One camera.
  5. One Paganello 2008 Ultimate deLux limited edition beanie.
  6. One internship opportunity.

Things found since in Austria

  1. One camera. (Hurray! Now I have 2. Well at least when I get back my camera.)
  2. Awesome friends from all over.
  3. One amazing unforgettable experience.

Wow I have 2x more things lost than things found. But don’t you think those 3 are a gazillion times of more significance than the 6 things lost?

Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

London London!

15 05 2008

Saturday I am flying off to London! My 1st time stepping onto UK soil ever!

Nice to be going to where I ‘belong’.

Exciting!

And next next weekend I *might* be going to Konstanz for the 3rd Südsee Cup. If I can find a team, and cheap train tickets. See how it goes.

Getting ready

14 05 2008

Less than 3 months away. So many things hanging in the balance. I need to plan to get ready.

Come July I will be embarking on my big trip, most likely alone, at least for the 1st leg until the others in Germany are done with class. I am thinking of flying to France, going up to Luxembourg and then going to Marburg for 4ferkel and then flying to Spain/Portugal for a week and then flying to Riccone for Paganello 7 by Night or to München, Sauerlach for Euromix 2008. Then its a couple of days of traveling Italy before heading back to Innsbruck to prepare for the impending.

I fear the unknown.
