What I did today.
- Had a Referat (presentation) about Singapore. And I was really nervous and stuff but I think it went ok and its really strange coz so many people had questions for me while most of the other people had one or 2 questions. Perhaps they don’t see that many Asians around.
- Got a really bad grade for this vocab test. Apparently I wrote TOO MUCH! Who ever heard of that?!? Its like impossible in Singapore where you mug your head off and the more you write the higher the possibility of you hitting the correct answer. I apparently wrote too much and in complete sentences. Which was wrong. Strange.
- Found another fly in my room. This is really irritating! I never had problems in a hot country like Singapore so I don’t see why I am having problems. Things don’t rot that easily here coz its cooler, so why are there so many flies? And I am not talking about small small flies, they are hugh! I think it might be time to get a fly swatter from the supermarket.
- Didn’t get my bank card again. The lady told me that I could get it LAST WEDNESDAY! but its like Monday already and she says it won’t be ready until THURSDAY. So I had to draw money from the ATM from my SINGAPORE account so thats gonna cost me I think. And coz I had to get groceries, I only have €20 to survive on until Thursday. This is sort of an emergency. I gotta NOT BUY ANYTHING. And believe me its REALLY hard to do that. It just does not make sense how Zara here is so darn cheap! I have a new love for Zara by the way.
- Bought a 1kg bag of pasta for 90c euros. Its crazy! Its probably gonna last me for what 3 weeks? Haha. Now I have about slightly less than 2kg of dry pasta sitting in my room waiting to be eaten.
- Made like 4 trips to the laundry room. 1st was to do my own laundry but the washing machines were occupied. 2nd was to help my friend do laundry coz they need some QuikCard to do it which I have and they don’t (gosh I love being an exchange student instead of being here just for a summer thing.) 3rd was to actually do my laundry coz the machine was free FINALLY. 4th was to help the Italians do their jeans. They seem to have no sense of responsibility. Their laundry has been sitting in the washing room for 1 day and more already and they I just helped them washed it now. 5th was to remove my clothes from the washing machine and chuck them into the dryer. 6th and final time was to grab my washing from the dryer (and some of my socks from the Italians’ load). So now there’s half dried/wet clothing all over my room. I only have 11 hangers so its stretching it abit. Everything is draped with something.
- Went to the Altstadt expecting some concert thingy but there wasn’t a concert. It was supposed to be some traditional free concert thingy with people in Ledenhosen and Drindls and stuff singing apparently. But it wasn’t. And the thing that was there was not traditional and it ended at 8pm. And we were there at around 8.20pm (we were late anyway, coz we were supposed to meet point number 8. at 8pm.)
- Met this local Austrian guy called Andreas. He’s really cool! He’s like a skiing and snowboarding instructor (hello free lessons!) And he has travelled practically to everywhere! Like Thailand, Philippines, America, all over Europe of course, North Africa, he just came back from Morocco not long ago! And it was really nice talking to him coz he was in Singapore for 1 semester (he spent the other ’semester’ travelling) and its nice to know someone who know where I am from and talk about things like Singlish, and Singapore culture, shopping in Orchard Road. Its like a familiar feeling in a foreign land. And he told me quite a lot of stuff about studying and stuff so thats really good. And hes gonna help me inquire about a cheap bike! And he knows how and where to use LAH! How amazing.
- Took a random picture! Trisha, this Londoner I met, she was just walking walking with me and Andreas, and suddenly FLASH and omg! She took a picture! Haha it was so funny I was shocked and everything and when she told me what happened I couldn’t stop laughing and we just laughed laughed and laughed and Andreas was looking like we were 2 crazy people or something haha. I really want to see how the picture comes out though. It should have something coz the flash went off and it wasn’t thattt dark. And after that I got the idea of putting a digicam on timer and swinging it around to get random pictures! Imagine the artistic worth of something like that! Haha.
- Last but not least. I am thankful for all the stuff God has blessed me with. Friends here when I was really quite scared to come here in the first place (I didn’t look it but seriously I was!). Friends back there who miss me and whom I really really miss too. Mummy who didn’t scold me despite the fact that I had a couple of cents left and I do stupid stuff regarding money. But it does remind me to SAVE. I think I am really getting used to living away from home. Doesn’t mean that I don’t miss home. Its just that I get used to it too. But still, the comforts and familiarity of home is something I would look forward to until I get back. I can tell that this will be a learning year.
Oh gosh I did so much stuff today. I think everyday will be exciting too. I hope. There’s of course the bad bits like my test coming up on Wednesday, and my undone homework which is sitting idling while I post this blog entry up. But still, I think, coming here, nothing short of LIFE CHANGING.
